In this paper, we introduce our work on extending PostgreSQL to support distributed query processing. Although PostgreSQL has no built-in distributed query processor, its function mechanism provides possibilities for us to integrate data of various data sources and execute distributed queries.Cited by: 7

Abstract. The paper describes the design and the implementation of PargreSQL parallel database management system (DBMS) for cluster systems. PargreSQL is based on PostgreSQL open-source DBMS and exploits partitioned parallelism. Presented experimental results show that this scheme is worthy of further development.Cited by: 9

Jul 14, 2019 · PostgreSQL is not a distributed database, but there is something called Citus that is based on PostgreSQL. Here are its key features: Open-source PostgreSQL extension (not a fork) Scalable across multiple machines through sharding and replication; Distributed engine for query parallelization; Database designed to scale multi-tenant applications

To do that in Python, you would use the standard DB-API drivers for both databases and write individual queries; then merge their results. An ORM like sqlalchemy will go a long way to help with that. The other option is to use an integration layer.
