Mar 24, 2017 · As a cheaper alternative to getting a NAS to run eg. rsync between Windows and the NASI was thinking of… partitioning the second drive as EXT4; running a Windows backup application that can access EXT4 partitions natively, so that the partition would still be off-limit to Windows; Is there such a thing? Thank you.

Aug 09, 2010 · In general, Windows won't see the files on a Linux-formatted hard drive. There is a utility which allows exploring EXT2/3 files systems from Windows but AFAIK it doesn't work for Ext4. If you have data in Linux which you wish to share with Windows, you can put it on a separate partition formatted FAT32 which both operating systems can read.

However, use the third-party tool need the below two requirement: a, Make sure the third-party tool can support ext4. b, Make sure the third-party tool can run properly in Windows 7

Ext2Fsd has limited EXT4 support and by default it will load the filesystems in read-only mode, but you can force this if you really have to write on EXT4 partitions from Windows (this is not recommended). Using it, your EXT partitions will be displayed just like native NTFS or FAT partitions ...

ext4 has some support through the older ext2* projects. btrfs has no current Windows support. New filesystems are always going to have a period where there's no support on another operating system and, frankly, that's going to suck.
