That being said, all android devices I have fiddled with have had support for ext2/ext3 compiled in (I think all Gingerbread devices must have support for ext2/ext3 since they are starting to use it on the eMMC flash instead of YAFFS2).

NTFS support has been in Linux for over 5 years now, with reliable writing supported for several of those years. I have personally used both NTFS and ext3 partitions on my SD card on my Android devices without issue. If you simply issue one proper 'mount' command it works fine.

Oct 10, 2012 · I sought out to see if our tablets support any alternative file systems.. and the results are not promising I used a USB adapter and PartedMagic / gParted to format the card. First I tried ext3, since its linux native and Android is in essence linux so I thought that would work. No luck.

Dec 07, 2016 · According to an ARS Technica article, the reason that Android switched to ext4 from YAFFS2 for its file system is because YAFFS2 is single-threaded, and "would likely have been a bottleneck on dual-core systems." Android, even back in 2010 was looking forward when many cores could be used in Smartphones.
