Thank you for using Vista Support forum, You said you are playing "EverQuest 1", I couldn't locate the product in the Vista Compatibility Center. If you would go there and check on the compatibility list to see if it is listed, sometime it required a small patch or fix to make it compatibible. Here's the link:

However it seems that time is running out on legacy Windows support. According to an announcement on the EQ2 Forums, EverQuest II will receive some kind of update in June 2016 which will render the game unplayable on Windows XP. Vista may share the same fate at some future date.
