If it is the case that the IDE drive in your host is recognized by ESXi, then you will be able to modify the install script TargetFilter.py to recognize your IDE device as a supported install device. You can find the list of devices that ESXi can recognize here.

We have to do a P2V on a workstation that take the result VMDK file and import it into a could application that will will be used to analized for security threats. The appliance only support IDE controller though. I think my only option is workstation or VirtualBox
