Dec 14, 2018 · Although not yet officially supported, I have successfully used PostgreSQL 11.1 and PostGIS 2.5.1 for the past two months to connect to a spatial database in PostgreSQL from ArcGIS. NOTE: this database was NOT ESRI Enterprise Geodatabase enabled, it is just a plain PostgreSQL / PostGIS database with spatial columns!

Oct 11, 2016 · Support PostgreSQL/PostGIS connections without a default "public" schema. As of 10.4.1, ArcGIS still is not able to connect to a PostgreSQL database if PostGIS is installed in a different schema. In the modern database landscape, this would appear not only as a limitation but as a defect.
