Adobe Support Community ... to open the EPS in Adobe Illustrator is the only thing that will get the real transparent parts of the vectors in that EPS file. Why? Because it was made in Illustrator and the original Illustrator code with real transparency is still embedded within the EPS.

EPS is a legacy format with limited transparency handling. You'd do much better using native PSDs, TIFFs, PDFs etc.. And of course Marian is right - all transparency handling is dependent on the target rendering device/ app actually interpreting transparency and handling it correctly.

Avoid importing transparent files from other programs into Illustrator, as the EPS format does not support transparency. When you link to an EPS file, Illustrator's color management settings will not affect it, even if the program has global color-management settings enabled.

Hi Stewart, first of all EPS does not support transparency by the standard. But since recently we added the background shape image behind the words, and it may impact EPS files you download. I suggest you to move the "shape transparency" slider in "Layout" section to the most left position (zero value) and try to export your word cloud in EPS ...
