Unfortunately in your case the ESX's answer is "no". Try to find how to cheat Debian distribution to be recognized by Converter as previous version or different but supported GOS.

Jan 24, 2013 · If we don't have UEFI natively, or even if we do, we can test this under a virtual machine in VMware Player. Keep in mind that UEFI in VM's is disabled by default. Used software: VMware Player 5.0.1 (this translates to VMware Workstation 9.0.1 for the Workstation users). We create a new VM for this purpose with one of the supported OS types.

However, if you'd still like to test or use EFI with other operating systems, enabling EFI support is easy. Open the VM settings, select System, and on the Motherboard tab, select Enable EFI (special OSes only).
