    For definiteness, a specific example which I am using very successfully with ECC support is an Asus M5A78L/USB3 motherboard with AMD Athlon II X2 245e processor (most AMDs support ECC) and four Crucial 2GB DDR3 ECC non-buffered RAM modules (although the Crucial website says they don't support this motherboard).
