If Jeff is considered to be an expert, the need for EAX support died when processing power became sufficent to no longer require external hardware. From the Wikipedia artcile on EAX: According to Creative's OpenAL 1.1 specification, EAX should be considered deprecated as a developer interface.

Mar 06, 2018 · maybe your upgrade to Win 10 removed the drivers because some don't support later OS anymore. try downloading the drivers or Sound Blaster Cinema from Acer Gaming site for desktop model, or contact their support for driver updates. i think you are missing the software suite or something. if done correctly, you should be able to select EAX in game.

Hardware EAX with CMMS Headphone or 3D on the hardware XFI cards sounds best. I did extensive testing on that in the early 2010s. Using Alchemy to enable EAX on the Z series sound blasters (for games that support OpenAL) is the second best choice in conjunction with their SBX processing.

Without an X-Fi card - specifically one with a "20K" chipset - there's no way to get true hardware EAX support in games. A sound card gives you 5.1/7.1 virtual surround support in all games, instead of expecting the game to do good virtual surround processing itself. (very few games do)
