Apr 19, 2017 · I'm a little stomped on this one. It is not my AD, but one we have a trust with, the trust randomly stopped working and we called them up and found out they are having issues with their AD. When opening ADUC or anything AD related they keep getting: "The Specified Domain Either Does Not Exist or Could Not Be Contacted" on both DCs.

dsquery computer -inactive x uses the LastLogonTimeStamp attribute to decide if a computer is inactive or not. Two of the idiosyncrasies of LastLogonTimeStamp are that: 1) it's very loose, i.e. nowhere near real-time. This attribute is not updated every time a computer logs on to the domain, and even when it is updated it isn't always replicated to other domain controllers right away.
