Apr 10, 2010 · Can a dresser or table safely hold a 20 gallon aquarium? I'd like to upgrade one of my 10 gallon tanks to a 20 gallon high. Though, I'm unsure about whether my dresser or other table will hold it. ... A good solid dresser or table will easily support a 20gal tank. I had one on a nice hardwood chest of drawers for years, no worries.

The dresser may be a better candidate if it's sturdy and well supported. Once I had a commercially produced aquarium stand made from press board. When the aquarium began to leak because of uneven support, the press board turned to mush. Never, ever use that kind of material to support an aquarium.

Aug 01, 2008 · You should actually be worried. There is a point that the wood can no longer support it, due to the one side dipping at an angle and the angle may cause the aquarium to slide off and break. I would recommend you moving the tanks to a sturdy counter, table, or an aquarium stand.

Simple tasks like cleaning the aquarium glass or changing water puts even more shifting forces on the “soft” wood particles and can be a recipe for disaster. Another potential trouble spot is a child’s dresser or chest of drawers. A dresser can support a small aquarium but the extra weight could make the dresser top heavy.

Dec 03, 2010 · Looks like it would support it and being heavy wood is good. It is quite a bit of weight though. ... The reason why you shouldnt is because the dresser doesnt distribute weight all along the dresser. If you look at aquarium stands for big tanks, the bottom of the stands are flat and cover more surface area. Even the aquariums stands with 4 legs ...

Jul 04, 2009 · It would worry me unless the dresser is VERY strong. I put a 30 long on a wooden dresser a couple years back and it held, but when I moved to a new house and took the tank off the dresser I noticed that it had bowed in the middle. I think www.garf.org has plans for building a stand if you need to do that.

Nov 17, 2008 · My dresser is 49 X 16.5 so I was wondering if it could support a 55 gallon tank? I dont think I would trust a dresser to support a 55 gallon tank. Most dressers arent made solid enough to support that kind of weight long term.

Feb 25, 2008 · Title says it all. i have my 55 gallon reef on there with about 50 pounds of sand, the water, and 30-40 pounds of live rock. Its made of the same particalboard that aquarium stands are made of. Im considering buying more rock to fill it in and its making me worry. how much do you think it can...

Mar 17, 2016 · I'd go with a definite No. Dressers are generally not a good choice because the front is not well supported, so it could make the tank tip forward. Since there is no front middle leg, I wouldn't say it's a good choice for what could be up to 600lb...
