It's how (properly mastered) widescreen DVDs work, except that unlike the Dreamcast, most DVD players will automatically adjust the image to restore the original aspect ratio on your TV. Most widescreen DVDs will say on the back whether they are anamorphic or letterboxed.

It just automatically fills the screen and I don't have to do anything.
