I have seen 2 other methods on the "This Old House" website that might help. One involves attaching half inch by half inch blocks along the bottom edge below the drawer bottom to give it more support. The other one uses a block on the underside of the drawer as a backer for attaching an angle bracket to the back of the drawer.
