To solve the running problem there's a widely known, free, DOS emulator, named DOSBox. DOSBox was originally designed to keep using popular DOS games on modern 64 bit Windows computers, so it lacks of some important features for business DOS programs, like parallel ports (LPT) support for printing (games usually don't need to print).
DOSPRN helps to extend the life of old DOS programs. This program allows you to print reports from a good old DOS program into new printers irrespective of their types (Yes, USB and network printers, print-servers, and PDF-printers too!) DOSPRIN will also be useful if a DOS program is in your native language. If your printer does not support ...
The setup can be daunting, to 'only' run that DOS application, its actual use overkill and cumbersome. vDos lets you conveniently run DOS applications by emulating an extended DOS PC in a window. vDos itself runs on Windows 7 or later, 32 and 64-bit. DOSBox; Feature Requests; DOSBox An Open Source DOS emulator to run old DOS games Brought to you by: harekiet ... Conclusion. So, in order to reliably print from DOS to a Windows printer you just have to setup Printfil to capture a LPT port (from LPT1: to LPT9:) and forward it to the choosen destination Windows printer:. 1) In RAW mode if the printer itself is RAW compatible and you want it printing just like you were used to do it in DOS 2) In GDI mode if the printer is GDI only or if you want to enhance ...4.7/5(24)

If instead the DOS program can ONLY print to a LPT port, and the emulator doesn't support LPT redirection (like DOSBox 0.74 Standard), then the dos print jobs will be "eat" by the emulator itself and Printfil will never receive anything to capture.4.7/5(24)

In this case please note that the Standard DosBox build available at the link above does NOT support parallel port emulation, so, print jobs sent by a DOS program to (say) LPT1: in DosBox simply "disappears" and Printfil receives nothing to capture, even if you've selected the LPT1: port at Configuration -> Standard.4.7/5(24)
DOS2USB Captures MS-DOS Print Job from LPT or PRN and Redirect it to any Windows Printer like USB printer, GDI printer, Network printer, Fax Printer, Virtual Printer, IP Based Printer with ANSI, OEM, Latin, Greek, Russian, Portuguese, Turkish and Hebrew Code Page (Language) Support.
DOSBox 0.74-3 has been released! A security release for DOSBox 0.74: Fixed that a very long line inside a bat file would overflow the parsing buffer.
