May 20, 2008 · OpenGL is open source, it is a standard, and it is already cross platform. It is pretentious for DirectX to even exist in the first place. It is pretentious for the .NET framework to have existed before Mono. It is pretentious for XBox 360 not to be able to use OpenGL.

To my knowledge none of the others have any kind of official support for OpenGL although you could in theory use ANGLE on Xbox 360 and Xbox One with some slight modifications. If you want to target consoles with a custom engine you will need to support multiple rendering back-end APIs since there is no one API that you can use across all of them.

Unfortunately, I asked a similar question last year, and the answer was clear: neither PS4 nor Xbox One have OpenGL support. If you want to make your game works on them without using another engine, you will have to rewrite the entire rendering API (anything directly related to OpenGL or shaders) into an API supported by a console.

Dec 03, 2006 · Does the XBox/XBox360 support OpenGL? I Know it's supposed to be programmed using DirectX, but I figured, since they use an NVidia/ATI graphics chip respectively, they might still support both API's.
