Aug 02, 2019 · the 360 default formats to fat32 which has a storage limit per file of 4gb. exFAT is an upgraded storage format with greatly expanded capacity. Xbox One may well have this capability; the 360 is so last-gen.

We need not to guess the next version of Xbox 360 will support NTFS or FAT32, but if we could find the way to achieve the conversion between NTFS and FAT32 at liberty, that's much better. Convert NTFS to FAT32 is not as easy as from FAT32 to NTFS without data loss.

Jan 23, 2010 · - Hardrive (250 gb) was originally NTFS which the xbox recognizes but does not play saved movies on drive - now i formatted it to exFAT and the xbox fails to even recognize it - what is the problem here? when the formatting window opens it gives options for selecting kilo bytes ranging from 512 bytes to 32768...

Currently the PS3 does not support xeFAT for external HDDs. It only supports FAT32 formatted drives which means that it does not allow files bigger than 4GB on external HDDs. This is crazy as the PS3 is supposed to be a HD movie playing machine but most HD films are larger than 4GB.

It's not like the PS3 and Xbox 360 are only supporting FAT32 because of power issues - they clearly far exceed the capability level needed for NTFS. In other words, whatever is stopping them from supporting NTFS is likely to apply next generation as well.
