May 07, 2012 · Combined with the new ligting and shadows engine in MoP, SSAO (wikipedia link) really improves the visual atmosphere in WoW scenes. Even tho SSAO itself it's quite subtle unless you specifically look for it, overall it improves the image quality and depth.

Aug 05, 2012 · Ambient Occlusion is a nice effect, but its somewhat expensive. The SSAO used in WoW is a lesser type, the effect cost is probably not worth the result you see on screen. LOTRO also uses AO, but a DX11 type that is much more pronounced that WoW's version.
