Aug 17, 2013 · Windows Vista not able to support WPA2 Wireless Security problem I recently upgraded my wireless router to a Linksys 400N N-series wireless router. I'm using WPA Personal / TKP to authenticate and on all of my XP and Vista machines I have been able to enter the security credentials and connect to the network.

I have a laptop with Windows Vista that does not suffer from the same speed lag over Wi-Fi. When I connect my Xp laptop via ethernet cable it reaches 5.8Mbps - 6.0 Mbps but on Wi-Fi I'm down to 3.7 Mbps whereas the Vista computer gets 5.7 Mbps consistently.

WPA is a subset of the 802.11i wireless security standard made as WEP was not good and needed to be quickly replaced. WPA2 implements all of the 802.11i standard.
