May 26, 2007 · I've been reading several books on Vista and in one of them it indicated that FAT and FAT32 were supported in Vista but NTFS was preferred. Later in the same book it says that Vista only supports NTFS...just wanted to get some insight into this. Thanks

I know about all the FAT32 limitations (I worked for 40 years in software/hardware) but I need to use this particular ATA USB Hard Disk also on an iMac and FAT32 is the only file system that Apple and Windows can use in r/w. Why Vista does not give me the FAT32 option when I try to format this USB Hard Disk?

Aug 22, 2007 · The first, and obvious solution was to make Vista run from an FAT32 drive, because EFI does support booting a FAT32 partition. A second reason you might want to have it as FAT32 is that MAC OS X doesn't have a Write/Read driver for NTFS filesystems.

Feb 17, 2017 · It was not recognized as a formatted drive and windows asked to format it but showed the memory size some thing about 26.3GB or 27.3GB. I tried following steps with no success: 1- Formatting it on a Win 7 laptop as FAT-32 but It was not possible since windows does not allow to format drives larger than 32GB as FAT32.
