Oct 20, 2011 · Posted October 20, 2011. If your motherboard controller has RAID 5 built into it then you should be able to install three drives and boot into a RAID5 array. Sometimes they still are referred to as software RAID because your CPU does the extra work rather than independent discreet logic (like a RAID controller card).

Jan 18, 2012 · The install WHS 2011 on a computer outside of the HP box then move the system drive in after the install is complete works great! I never was very happy with the space inefficiency of drive extender - I'm looking at flexraid, but will probably just use the built in Windows software RAID 5 for my three data drives.

Jul 25, 2011 · Unfortunately, as it turns out, I am running an Asus E35M-1 Pro mobo, which is a nice setup for low power and enough expansion slots, but despite having 5xSATA3, it does not have RAID. Hence to make my scheme work, I will need a hardware RAID-1 card that works with WHS 2011.

May 18, 2012 · This may be a stupid question but which units support WHS 2011 and which would be the best entry level unit? I've built a home server from a desktop pc and I would like to build a new unit with WHS 2011. I think it would be best to have a VGA port as i just like the option of being able to see whats not working if something goes wrong
