Apr 16, 2011 · Gigabyte has graciously offered new BIOS versions to try and fix the problem, but they keep appearing. One thing I have found that seems to work is to disable the whole HPET driver in Windows. Before this, I tried to update BIOS, drivers, etc, etc. Switched the HPET on/off and even played around with 32/64 settings.

HPET is the newest and best of these timers, but because of default combination of timers it takes longer time for CPU to keep up all the timers and sync between them. In these newer systems, Windows uses the newer Invariant TSC, which is a much more reliable and consistent system timer than HPET. Anyway, my question is simple.
