Jan 14, 2011 · Windows Vista does not officially support booting from a FAT32 drive, although it is technically possible. Vista supports FAT32 on Flash drives and hard drives, although it will not format a hard drive over 32 GB as FAT32.

If you haven't noticed one huge change with Windows 7 is that FAT32 is no longer an option when formatting drives. You are now left with the options of either NTFS or exFAT. OK so your asking what is exFAT? Well its not FAT32, actually its compatible with FAT64.

Win-7 on 30 GB NTFS disk partition. Windows 7 can handle FAT16 and FAT32 drives without problems, but that was already in Vista so that FAT was not accepted as the installation partition. Helpful information from Microsoft(c): File systems!
