Sep 14, 2019 · SMBv2 only shows as being enabled via cmd or in the registry, so I'm assuming that SMBv.1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support & SMB Direct were the only physical features in programs and features available to be checked/unchecked across Windows OS's 7-10, until the Windows 10 Fall Creators update removed it.

I believe Windows 7 does support the Core Protocol. It downgrades to SMB 1.0 when connecting to older servers as per here.. Based on the issues that Windows 7 has with connecting to Samba servers, I believe the issue with the specifying the core protocol is due the LANMAN workstation / client settings on the Windows 7 machine.

NOTE: when people say I have a “CIFS share”, its better to say I have a “SMB share “or a “Samba share” – more on this below. They use the same protocols to talk to each other.
