While the Wii U supports surround sound, if the system is being used in an application/game that does not support surround sound, the system will default to stereo sound. Jun 20, 2019 · But SPDIF and HDMI ARC[not eARC] do not support 5.1 PCM format, it can only enable 5.1 Dolby Digital / AC3 format. So users who take audio receiver with HDMI ARC / SPDIF link CAN NOT get surround sound working with N-Switch. Nintendo, please support 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound output in the future.

Nov 26, 2012 · Guys, I am both happy and dumbfounded to report to you guys that the Wii U never had any surround sound problems to begin with. I recently emailed Nintendo about this issue and they thankfully replied back to me and told me that the Wii U does not support Dolby, like the Wii and Gamecube previously did.

Apr 25, 2017 · The game itself has to support 5.1 surround, like how the Wii U had games that were only stereo and some had 5.1 any sort of optical connection will never do 5.1 on the Switch or Wii U as it does not encode PCM into Dolby Digital or DTS like how the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PS4 can.
