How can I tell whether or not the version of OpenCV shipped with Ubuntu 12.04 supports v4l2 devices? I have found a number of (oldish) pages that say OpenCV does support v4l2, but it's not clear to me whether the version installed on my 12.04 box was compiled with the appropriate option to enable this.

To clarify the final point, Python 3 is not backwards compatible with Python 2. That, and combined with the fact that Python 2 has more library support than Python 3, means that a large number of developers still have a direct dependency on Python 2.

Isn't this what killed off Perl for many years? Version confusion and what constituted the default? It's frustrating, because running any command with python now results in a big red warning in the terminal, but half the thing I want to do doesn't appear to work with v3.. I can only imagine this will put a lot of new users/people off using Python.
