Mike, I've just noticed this problem too, been fannying around for the past few hours trying to get it to run videos in 1080p. Some videos it does for some reason but others that I watch on my pc or LG 49in 4KTV with built in Youtube app that work dont on the firestick app.

Google took away 1080p option on the YouTube app for no apparent reason. My Nexus 7 2013, and my Sony Xperia Z1s were able to play 1080p videos just a few days ago. Then there was an update on Sept. 30th, that took the 1080p (and 480p) option away in the video quality selector.
