Nov 11, 2017 · You only need to add "client max protocol = SMB3" in the smb.conf used by Kodi and Samba will begin negotiating connections starting with SMB3 instead of NT1. However you need at least Samba 4.1.0 on the client in order for SMB2/SMB3 protocols to be supported. Setting "client min protocol" is known to cause compatibility issues so don't specify it.

While I still don't buy the argument (why should OEMs have *NO* SMB support when smbclient can't do SMB2? and why was this not a problem for 4.0?) and we are violating many of our release policies, I won't object the addition, because luckily the impact on the server code is minimal.
