Mar 23, 2018 · More nuance is needed: The streaming protocol for YT 4K (and higher) is still HMTL5, but it uses WebM container format with VP9 video codec, and that isn’t supported in Safari (and/or QuickTime). Let’s hope this silliness ends with the roll-out of AV1.

I have found that although Safari does support HTML5 Video, the Quicktime Player has to be installed in order for this to work. On a site that I built that uses HTML5 Video, the user is alerted when using Safari, telling them they must have Quicktime installed, otherwise they will only be able to see video transcripts. 1 Answer 1. It's just a layout issue with your page in WebKit (the rendering engine in Safari and Google Chrome). The map is loading, but the background is only being rendered a few px tall. Try setting an explicit pixel height value on the div#map_canvas, instead of height:98%.
