Sep 06, 2009 · Does the PS3 Slim support 5ghz wireless? I'm looking to buy a dual band router and know that the fat PS3 only supports 2.4ghz wireless internet. Is this the same with the slim or is that upgraded to 5ghz? It seems a bit stupid to make the best games console and not include high frequency compatability for online gaming. Thanks

You can't do that with a software update. It requires a different radio transmitter and receiver, which means that it could only be added to a later revision of the console. Your current PS4 console will never support 5Ghz Wi-Fi, unless you connect it to a Wi-Fi bridge or extender that supports that band.

PS4 does not support 5GHz. If you must, use an ethernet cable. You can also buy a 5GHz Access Point that will connect to your 5GHz Router, and connect the PS4 to the Access Point using an ethernet cable. One that I know that works is ASUS AC68U, configured as Media Bridge.
