Jan 22, 2008 · 5.1 Dolby Surround and PCM are different things. First, I'd check your HD box manual to fix the output to 5.1. If this is a HD box it HAS to be able to output 5.1, otherwise it cannot legally use the HD logo nor it can be named Hi-Def. Second, if you only can get the PCM, then check your sound system.

Feb 12, 2017 · Im still trying to get my head around the various audio formats, but is it possible to get 5.1 through PCM? If it is possible, does it come to as 5.1 in the sonos app, or will all PCM come up as stereo? I'm looking into possibly getting a splitter to bypass the TV for audio, if that'll help me get 5.1 from all my DTS Blurays. Any tips?

PCM 5.1 can work with a receiver that supports the format, so if you want uncompressed sound, you’ll need to forego passing the audio through your TV, and instead output the sound directly from the source (one that outputs PCM 5.1) to the receiver. Note that only HDMI can transmit a 5.1 PCM signal.
