Mar 16, 2018 · Microsoft Publisher (either 7 or 10) used to offer the option of saving with CMYK . Now they say that if I save to PDF/A my files will automatically convert to CMYK - Is that true? I had saved some old files done in SM Pub 10 and saved to CMYK and when I started using Publlisher 16 it erased all the CMYK and substituted RGB without even asking me.

The short answer in no. Gimp, Inkscape, Imagemagik and others do not natively support CMYK. These programs have RGB to CMYK converters which is fine for images but that's it. When designing for print, starting in the CMYK colorspace is a must.

Why does GIMP not support CMYK? This is a feature that I really need as a user and I don't know why it is not supported in GIMP by default. Is there possibly a way of which I could add support for it via an extension or plugin? Should this turn up nothing, would there be another software program with CMYK support which would run on Ubuntu?
