This fix above did not work as the site is not sharepoint site. This site was created outside of sharepoint. i could at one time edit non sharepoint files with Designer so what changed. – blkhk1up Jul 10 '17 at 13:38

Jun 08, 2007 · It is always give me this error: "Visual Web Developer does not support opening Sharepoint web sites. See help for more details". I have read read very old posts about this error, but none of the info was about to solve the problem for me. Would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me with this problem. thanks. michael

Apr 30, 2014 · Sharepoint sucks. I would think about dropping it if at all possible. WE run 2010 here and you really need a full time sharepoint guy or it's pretty much worthless.
