Jan 21, 2014 · Ad-Hoc is part of the wifi specification, but it's possible that some devices don't support it. Nothing to do with peer-to-peer internet protocols like bittorrent. It means that there is no support for P2P programmes such as Frostwire or Limewire which llow you to share/download music files usually from another computer.

Feb 16, 2011 · My guess would be an artificial software roadbloack, because the hardware probably supports it they just haven't implemented support for that type of network. Probably since its a consumer device they don't think it'd be worth implementing enterprise wi-fi. You'd think the kindle dx would find its place in business though, so who knows.

Oct 12, 2010 · Chewbacca: If you look on the kindle product page, it says that enterprise and ad-hoc networks are not supported. The iphone sharing its wireless would be an ad-hoc (peer to peer) network. The easiest workaround would be to get a 3G kindle instead of wifi-only, or to only download books when you have wifi accessible.
