net-snmp supports IPv6 from 5.0-release, but not implement access control by IPv6 address. Net-snmp implements as set of VACM, which is defined in SNMPv3 framework (RFC 2575), and access control. But SNMPv3 is necessary for secure network management, so we implement access control by IPv6.

If you need embedded Perl support, do your own Perl installation first. 3. IPv6 ------- Starting with net-snmp 5.4 you can enable the UDPIPv6 and TCPIPv6 transports on Tru64 Unix 5.1: ./configure --enable-ipv6 There's no support for the IPv6 MIBs, though.

The IPv6-MIB (which is specific to IPv6) was obsoleted in 2006 by the IP-MIB (which covers both IPv4 & IPv6). I'm not sure about the TCP/UDP MIBs, but the situation is probably similar there. Given that the Net-SNMP IPv6 support is relatively recent, I strongly suspect that we skipped the IPv6-specific MIBs,...

If you don't build the Net-SNMP library with IPv6 support enabled, then snmpwalk won't be able to use IPv6 addresses. Try re-compiling the tools to enable IPv6 and see if you get the same problem. Dave

SNMP Research products can support IPv6 on systems which support IPv6 and can use both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. On an IPv6-enabled network, each machine may have multicast, anycast, and unicast addresses. IPv6 is most secure when used in a unicast (one host to another host) situation.

May 25, 2018 · The issue with addresses is in Nagios, not net-snmp and not snmptt. Nagios treats the address as a static string, but in IPv6 its a somewhat dynamic string. You can put pretty much anything for an address and Nagios won't care. This was fine for v4 but not v6.

Is anybody aware of (windows) utility which can send SNMP traps to IPv6 addresses? I've tried trapgen but it seems it's not able to work with IPv6 addresses. Also there is net-snmp windows port but it's a real pain to use it for sending traps. For me it didn't work at all. It always failed with "Cannot find module (TRAP-TEST-MIB):". Thanks.

Within my /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf I've tried without an agentaddress (default for Ubuntu) or by setting it's value to 161 / 161,udp6 / upd6 / updv6 or many other variations. My concern is perhaps Ubuntu's snmp isn't compiled with ipv6 support? How would I find that out? Further information:
