NCQ is a part of AHCI. If you have one, you have the other one also. I can’t find a reason that you’d want to disable it. Ever since 2009 it has worked better than not having it. Operating systems learned how to use it to best effect. If the OS wants a faster response for just one command it doesn’t issue new ones.

Yes. The NCQ supported hard drives will work just fine with non-NCQ supported controllers or motherboards. However you will not be able to take advantage of the NCQ features.

Aug 09, 2008 · That drive does not seem to support NCQ properly as one user posted on my thread. Put a Seagate 7200.11 and try with that. Also... Windows AHCI driver does not work with NCQ properly. Use only Intel. Edited August 5, 2008 by 6_6_6. ... Hard Disk Drives (HDD) Slower with NCQ ?

Feb 12, 2010 · It seems that most SATA HDD support NCQ and this feature was enabled by default. I’ve attached some software which you can use to check HDD’s NCQ status. If you cannot find the status of NCQ, you may have to check if your motherboard does support this feature since NCQ request hardware/controller support.

Native Command Queuing (NCQ) is a technology designed initially to increase performance of SATA hard disks under certain conditions by allowing the individual hard disk to internally optimize the order in which received read and write commands are executed. This can reduce the amount of unnecessary drive head movement, resulting in increased performance (and slightly decreased wear of the drive) …

In computing, Native Command Queuing (NCQ) is an extension of the Serial ATA protocol allowing hard disk drives to internally optimize the order in which received read and write commands are executed. This can reduce the amount of unnecessary drive head movement, resulting in increased performance (and slightly decreased wear of the drive) for workloads where multiple simultaneous read/write ...

If it's not supported on the Xbox One mainboard, your hard drive (which I assume supports NCQ) will just operate normally without using NCQ. But you should totally get a USB 3.0 external HDD, as by some ironic twist, it's marginally faster than the SATA2-connected internal hard drive due to slightly higher bandwidth provided by USB 3.0, and it's always nice to have plenty of storage.
