I only know a bit and can't offer a complete answer, but technically, the MP4 format specification doesn't allow for timecode. It does allow for custom metadata in a narrowly defined format, and some companies (notably Apple and GoPro) have used custom metadata fields to store timecode.

Jul 09, 2012 · The reason for this is that MP4 and M4V files do not support timecode. However, the MP4 specification is based on the QuickTime file format so it's easy to create a QuickTime movie (.mov) instead of an MP4 and the file will still be recognized by iOS devices and the Apple TV.

For the record, unless you're using a recent version of MPC-HC with the internal LAV splitter, MPC-HC will ignore any audio delay used in MP4 files. I'm pretty sure the LAV splitter applies the correct delay.

Feb 12, 2012 · If this is true then the program should be able to read mp4 (MPEG-4) files, as it cant it suggest that the only support if to MPEG2 ACC which uses the .AAC file extension. Could someone explain if the documentation is incorrect or whether the program just does not support MPEG-4.

Does Camtasia support export of Quicktime with precise NTSC 59.94, 29.97, and 23.976 frame rates and does it support drop frame time code? I am trying to use Camtasia Studio to create an SRT caption file which is then imported into a plug-in in Final Cut Pro. The subtitle timings are off a little. Wondering if it might be due to drop frame time code in Final Cut.
