Dec 08, 2014 · As far as I can tell ImageMagick uses JasPer library for JPEG2000 conversion. The problem with using JasPer directly is that none of its support input formats themselves support transparency, even though the JasPer documentation implies that transparency is supported (it doesn't say it is or isn't, but it does talk a bit about how transparency is encoded.)

Apr 23, 2018 · Save your render file that requires the transparency channel (RGBA) in PNG format instead of JPEG2000. Assuming this will soon be fixed in 2.5, load the PNG via the compositor and save out again as Jpeg 2000. Or save the PNG file out as Jpeg2000 in an image editing program like GIMP.

Dec 08, 2014 · I'm attempting to use JasPer JPEG2000 library to create transparent JPEG2000 images (actually I'm creating JPCs).. The issue I'm having is that I can't figure out how to make JasPer create a transparency image. None of its supported formats support transparency (with the exception of the JPEG2000 formats, which are what I'm trying to create):

To claim, that jpeg supports transparency, means that the JPEG standard supports transparency, in the sense that it doesn't care about a channel's meaning - 'transparency' is as good a meaning as 'blue'. Your comment is more about whether standard software actually supports a JPEG feature.

It is JPEG, so it does not contains transparency (only JPEG 2000 supports transparency). The background is white ( ) and fully opaque. If you create an icon from this image, it will create a white square around the final icon, which is not the desired result.
