Sep 14, 2016 · iPad 3 does support 5GHz wifi. My router uses separate SSIDs for 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, so you can control which you connect to. I'm not sure whether all routers do this. There's no way to disable either 2.4 or 5GHz on the iPad. BTW, my iPad did not work reliably on the 5GHz network so I dropped back to 2.4GHz.

Aug 27, 2011 · The iPhone only supports 2.4Ghz WiFi N (as stated on the iPhone tech specs page) The iPad 1 supports both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz WiFi N. You can see the tech specs on the Wayback machine where it makes no mention of 2.4Ghz only. I've also used my iPad without problem on a 5Ghz router

Sep 15, 2016 · 802.11n does NOT have to be 5ghz. it can be on 2.4 as well, so that is not a good measure. Look up the details on your wireless card make/model, or mobile device by specific model number. If the card specs don't specify dual band or 5ghz, it likely is not. ABGN cards and AC cards support 5ghz (the A band) BGN cards do not.

Feb 10, 2011 · He says that 5ghz is a no-go for iPad 1 right now. That is not true. iPad definitely supports 802.11n on 5GHZ band. I have a D-Link DAP-1522 Access Point at home and my iPad has no trouble at all connecting to it on 5GHZ band with WPA2 security. I also have successfully connected to other routers on 5GHZ band at a few friends' places.

Apr 21, 2011 · the 5ghz band is much more prone to attenuation than the 2.4ghz band, including via flesh. Are you moving your hands on the iPad while the page is loading? Maybe you are inadvertently blocking the signal. At my house, at least, the 5ghz network isn't reliable unless the router is in the same room as the device.
