    Oct 27, 2013 · Ironically Aperture and iPhoto got native AVCHD support before iMovie... Anyway, it re-wraps the MTS files as MP4 so it's very quick. In fact iMovie may just be doing the same thing under the covers. BTW I tried iMovie on my rMBP-13 which has a (theoretically) faster GPU and playing the video from the timeline was horrible.
