If it did, there would be no reason to develop HDMI to begin with (although HDMI offers more features than just higher resolution). Perhaps you were getting 1080i with VGA. By the way, the 1280x800 is probably converted to 720p by the TV.

Aug 16, 2007 · Bengbeng as far as I am aware a 720p/1080i signal requies the cable to be capable of a transfer rate of around 2.23Gps and that 1080p (BR disc) of around 4.4Gps, the hdmi 1.3 versions requires a bandwidth of 10.2Gps to allows for higher colour bits etc that is in the hdmi 1.3 spec.

Aug 02, 2008 · The distance you can cover with a cheap hdmi cable might be higher for 720p than for 1080p, but in general if some manufacturer 'argues' by it's products or commercials that you need more expensive cables for 1080p in any case no matter how short the distance between the devices he's just trying to cheat you.

Feb 16, 2019 · I have a 1080p HDMI monitor, and I wanted to play my PS2 in 720p or 1080i using the OPL GSM build. My only question is: do the adapters listed on Amazon and Ebay have support for these video modes? Like most 720p tvs are 768p (1366*768). So downscaling 1080p to 768p is going to look better than 720p upscaled. For games, if a game renders at 1080p, downscaling it to 720p may give you some natural anti-aliasing to smooth edges. If you guys complain why bother with 1080p input support on a 720p,...

Dec 07, 2006 · I'm assuming the TV you have is the LN-R3228W mentioned in your signature. The samsung website doesn't have anything to say whether it does or does not support 480i over HDMI, however Crutchfield says it does. You might want to call Samsung and ask if they support 480i over HDMI.
