Feb 23, 2016 · FreeNAS can support NTFS and High-Intergrity data storage, at the same time, just not at the same time so now I've got the nas4free.img and im hopign it work this time, 3rd time's the charm. i do like what you guys are doing here, its pretty nifty, if i wasnt using pre-loved drives i'd use this. but we don't all have money to buy new drives.

FAT32/NTFS mounts are read only on FreeNAS. From the FreeNAS FAQ on the topic: Q: Can I use an NTFS, FAT, or EXT formatted drive with FreeNAS? A: Yes you can, but there are limits: FAT, NTFS and EXT2/3 can be used to transfer bulk data to a UFS formatted drive ONLY. FAT, NTFS and EXT2/3 should be used in read-only mode, not read/write.

I bought a Buffalo DriveStation only to find after tinkering with it, that the drive does not support NTFS through the network...

After all of that I would recommend it just for the fact it does ZFS and has a wide variety of plugins, with that said Ubuntu and other Linux OSs do have support for ZFS as well which is what others prefer rather then FreeNAS. Depends on yourself, how much you wanna learn and dive into your hardware and all, and of course budget.
