Jun 06, 2008 · Best Answer: DVI-D is, in essence, the basis for the video component of HDMI, so yes, it will support 1080p. There is just no audio since DVI is video only. Note there are digital (DVI-D) and analog (DVI-A) versions (as well as single and double link and integrated) -- you need the DVI-D.

Jan 11, 2014 · However, since the only real difference is in the shape of the physical connector many GPUs and displays do support the use of the HDMI signalling over a DVI-D connection. This is in many ways an exception to the rules and is not a part of the standard, but it does exist so you will have to look at your display's technical information and your GPU's technical information to find out.

Aug 04, 2010 · So I've done some research and it appears there are 2, maybe 3 different types of DVI, the three being DVI-A, DVI-I, and DVI-D and apparently the DVI-D supports 1080p but I am unsure of whether my MacBook supports that. I have a late 2008/early 2009 model of the 13" aluminum MacBook. It has a mini display port as I'm sure you all know.

Jan 12, 2010 · As the others have said, DVI definitely supports 1080p. I have an old 32-bit single core Athlon XP w/ low-end GeForce 6200 graphics that has been driving a Sony KDL-40V2500 TV at 1080p resolution via DVI-HDMI cable for 3+ years now - works great.

Dec 14, 2008 · i happen to also be doing the same thing, converting dvi to hdmi but from a computer to a tv. dvi-d to hdmi does support true 1080p. in fact, hdmi supports the resolutions such as 480p, 480i, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p but do not accept monitor resolutions like 1440X900.

Jan 04, 2006 · DVI can handle 1920x1200 @ 60Hz, which is higher bandwidth than 1920x1080 @ 60Hz required for 1080p HD. (Proper term is single-link DVI.) DVI-D (dual-link DVI) can support 3840 x 2400 @ 60Hz. Most common use of dual-link DVI atm is Apple 30" Cinema Display which is 2560x1600 pixels (and is gorgeous).

Jun 02, 2015 · HDMI and DisplayPort are different connections that both support 4K resolutions. HDMI is the best choice if you are just connecting a gaming console, blu-ray player or streaming device to your TV. DVI is a good choice if you’re looking to get the most out your high frame rate on a 1080p monitor.Author: Nikita Fedorov

Jun 10, 2019 · My laptop/PC only has a Mini DisplayPort port, but my monitor supports 144Hz over Dual-Link DVI-D. You will need an active Mini DisplayPort to DL-DVI-D adapter. Note that this adapter allows for up to 120Hz at 1080p only. Using a passive or Single-Link DVI-D adapter will limit you to 60Hz at 1080p.

Not only is it supported, but, when I tried to compare 1080p transmitted to the same monitor via VGA vs. HDMI, I really could not tell any noticeable difference. This may not be true for all monitors (depending on their D-to-A converters). There was an extra step to get VGA configured just right.
