NDMP cannot be done, but I believe your goal is to "Back up" the data domain. seems a little weird, since your DD should only have backups on it. What I would do in your case is setup an NFS mount to a Linux Networker storage node, it will still have to transfer the data across the network, but only once. Just backup the NFS mount.

NDMP Backup of CIFS Servers to Data Domain. I have been provided with a Data Domain to backup my VNX file data. I have an addtional 4 copper ports but no FC / VTL license. On my data mover I have two CIFS servers which are on seperate VDM's due to internal policies and requirements.

if you are using the traditiional licenscing model you would required to have the NDMP license in netbackup end, if you are using the capacity based licencing is is bundled with the lincese. 2) I have 8GB FC and 10GBE on media servers and data domain though NAS filers have only 1GBE to support .
