May 24, 2016 · For the architecture of Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad Intel just joined more CPUs on the same PCB inside the capsule. None of this came with Hyper Threading. When the market stabilized and Intel sells grew back, they remembered the Hyper Threading technology, and implemented it on high-class CPUs on the LGA 1336 socket, a socket that supported only i7 and Xeon CPUs.

Feb 27, 2008 · Hyper threading technology tricks the system to make it think it has 2 cores/processors, but in reality gains of performance in optimized tasks are about 20%. Real dual core system can nearly (90+% in OS X) double the performance if the task can use multiple cores (most modern apps can use at least 2 cores).

This graph shows how well the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 performs in comparison with other Core 2 Duo microprocessors. The most important specifications differences between all processors are displayed in the "Specs" column. Because the tests run on a single core, the "Specs" column does not include the number of cores, or Hyper-Threading support.
