Does the new Catalyst 3550 support auto-MDIX? The auto-MDIX is the name HP, 3Com, and others called its switches feature that automatically discovers if the wrong cable (cross-over or straight-thru) is being used and changes the port configuration for MDI or MDI-X, that is, you don't need to use crossed cables even when you are connceting a switch to another switch.

Oct 28, 2005 · 3750 supports MDIX but 3550 doesnot support MDIX. the port on 3750 is capable to recognizing any type of cable i.e staright through or cross-ssover and will changle polarity accordingle while 3550 doesbot support auto MDIX so it is still looking for a cross-over cable at its end.

Cisco 2950 - 3550 with a straight through cable. Everything I have read and experienced with both Cisco 2950 and 3550 switches seems to confirm the ports will not support Auto-MDIX. However yesterday when connecting a 3550 and 2950 I forgot to use a crossover cable. It worked anyway.
