Re: MS Hyper-v on DL380 G4 The problem there is that the CPUs on the DL380 G4 don't have VT support. I think you need the Intel 5xxx series processors for VT support, and the G4 series servers are just using the older Xeon CPUs. The G5 Proliants were the first to have the 5100-5400 processors, and the G6 has support for the 5500 CPU's.

Has anyone been able to run Hyper V on a DL380 G4? I know you need the -1 layer to really get things working well, but I am curious if any of the updates will allow you to run 2008 and Hyper V.

Oct 20, 2011 · I have a DL380 G4 running 2008 R2, but it is not capable of Hyper-V due to a lack of VT. Generally, it would make a great personal server or educational server (especially since they're about $300 or less these days). I would not under any circumstances use it as a production server because of the system's age and support level (none).
