No matter what anyone says, DX 10 is only available in Vista and not possible in XP. So, you need to upgrade your Windows if you want anything higher than DX 9. Recommended is Windows 7 which has DX 11 if your graphics card supports it. GTX 285 can only support DX 10 though, so even in Windows 7 it will only use DX 10.
