Jan 17, 2009 · Roosevelt himself was a naval historian. He was influenced by Mahan's book as was Kaiser Wilhelm in Germany. A strong navy required overseas bases then as now. A strong navy protected merchant shipping that benefited the home nation. Much of Imperialism is about prosperity for the home nation. Hope this helps.
