Jun 27, 2009 · Industrialization, as we think of it, wasn't really present during Adam Smith's time. But if it were, I don't see any reason to think why not. What he wrote about in "The Wealth of Nations" was in regards more toward free trade (vs. controlled trade, as the mercantilist economies he was opposed to advocated) rather than laying any real groundwork for industrialization.
